So here’s the story. This was a particularly fun EP to work on! Many times when I collaborate with people… By the time I get sent a file or a bounce or we finally end up going into the studio; I usually have little space for overall harmonic content because I usually come in at the end of the creative process 😉 (easier for me lol) But… On the whole LAX EP I was sent these MASSIVE stripped-down grooves by Matt and Laz from the get-go so I had a great opportunity to layer and stack things up quite nicely… Vocals, synths, harmonies, melodies etc… There was room for everything. I was in wonderland.
At the end of it all, weeks to months has passed, and finally, all of the parts were mixed down beautifully by Matt and Laz; and there I was… sitting on a couch listening to the master. I was completely blown away and totally stoked because it was finally coming out. Since I received the master 8-9 weeks ago… I’ve been playing all 3 jams on my live & dj sets consistently and they’ve always seemed to integrate themselves beautifully into whatever song was playing before them. Hopefully you will enjoy listening to this EP as much as I enjoyed writing, recording and singing on it.
Be sure to grab your copy on VINYL or AIF/WAV format when it comes out. Beats the hell out of frequency shaved, mushy sounding, over-compressed MP3s… Right? No? Oh right, most people can’t hear the difference you say. That’s correct. They can’t. But….But….But that doesn’t mean they can’t FEEL the difference. They can feel it and THAT makes all the difference in the world. Think about that.
Shadi Megallaa’s, “You Aint Dancin” in the hands of Nikko Gibler, bubbles and clicks with mechanical precision. The tight electronic funk here pushes against the trends of today’s floor and shows how Left’d as a label is open to any music with something to say. Five releases in and the 8 tracks on show again provide a snapshot of modern underground house music. From the super deep funked up core to the twisted outer limits, the label continues to break fresh talent and put a vibrant spin on todays dancefloors.
Also featuring tracks and remixes by Waifs & Strays, Geddes, John Johr, Mark Chambers, Rusty James, Christian Maiden, Maher Daniel, Jacksonville, Stojche, Matthew Burton, Nick Lawson.
