Sheik 'n' Beik NYC Anniversary party

If you’re wondering what’s sweet in NYC this weekend (but please don’t get too sentimental, save it for Valentine’s..), you will be happy to know that the original Sheik ‘n’ Beik crew – Julio, Fong, Varick & Romainville – will be finally re-united this Saturday February 5th at Don Hill’s, Tribeca, to celebrate its 3rd anniversary. The sound by the four residents will be enhanced and shaped by James Barnes’s hypnotic video edits for a full sensory experience in true Sheik ‘n’ Beik style.

“Sheik ‘n’ Beik” started out as a weekly party in New York City, but has grown ever since, becoming a music and art installation project, with the mission to “integrate innovative and high quality music with the most cutting edge art at each event”.

Heading into their 4th year of operations, they’re now fully global, with parties in Rio de Janeiro, Beirut, Bogota & London, to name a few, and they’re considered a lifestyle by many people around the world. 2011 is looking fabulous already as they’re warming their engines up for the busiest year ever and taking off to Miami, Paris, Los Angeles & Las Vegas just in the next couple of months.

As a matter of fact, I will be playing at Sheik ‘n’ Beik Miami 2011 @ Nikki Beach, along with Martin Buttrich (Desolat/Coocon) , Behrouz (Yoshitoshi/Monique Musique), Matt Tolfrey vs. Inxec (Leftroom/Rekids), Pablo Cahn-Speyer (Cadenza/8-bit), Mikael Stavostrand (Sunset Diskos/Highgrade Records), Jeffrey Scott (Esthetik), of course Julio + Fong (Sheik ‘n’ Beik) , & several other guest performers to be announced very soon. So make sure you get your tickets: with this daytime party Sheik ‘n’ Beik, will take electronic music events to the next level of craziness..

UMF vs. WMC 2011

After all of the confusion that has risen concerning the WMC and Ultra Music Festival breakup of 2011, most “party travelers” have the same question on their mind, “When should I head out to Miami for the best parties this year?” I have an easy and objective answer for all of you.

If you are a jet-set party animal who never misses a party and flies out to all of the best festivals during the year (Electric Zoo, Burning Man, BPM, Sonar, Movement etc…), your best bet is to head out to MIA during the last 10 days of March. I have found that most respectable labels and promoters will be hosting their parties on the same dates that they have been doing it on for the last couple of years. Although Resident Advisor has only disclosed 2 or 3 of these events, several other lists of parties have leaked all over the web.

I also found out that the events that are happening during WMC are based towards a much more mainstream crowd (what a shocker!! haha). Where’as the parties during Ultra week are more focussed towards the underground clubber and the people running the industry. Now, don’t get me wrong, many mainstream acts will be present at Ultra Music Festival as well (Deadmau5, Carl Cox, Tiesto, etccc), but if what you are after are the small, exclusive, (funner, in my opinion) label parties like Get Lost, Minus, Culprit, Hot Natured, Sheik ‘n’ Beik or Visionquest to name a few, you will be able to find those between the 22nd and the 30th of March.

If you are a dj/producer/label manager looking to meet & greet, network and/or learn more about electronica culture. Your best bet is during WMC. This is because WMC is known for having panels, workshops and networking events with the specific purpose of illustrating or teaching new, upcoming and thriving artists the way the industry and the equipment works.

Here is a comprehensive list of the parties I have found listed online. They may not be official but will definitely give you an idea of what’s going on and when.
