Season Closing Party

As this beautiful Los Angeles Summer wraps up, Harmonic will host their BASK season closing party at the Standard Rooftop in Downtown on Sunday September 25th with impeccable talent from all over the globe.

Headlining the event will be house and techno powerhouse BUTANE of Berlin/US. How busy can one man be? Let Butane tell you. He’s running 2 successful record labels, producing EP’s, albums and remixes for some of the most respected labels in the business, and touring extensively across the most renowned clubs in Europe, America, Asia and beyond… all without breaking a sweat. A firm believer that the long hours of studio work keeps a musician grounded, he’s produced 14 EP’s, two albums, and countless remixes to date, on highly respected labels like Crosstown Rebels, Dumb Unit, Foundsound, Alphahouse, Rrygular, Mo’s Ferry, and Hallucination Limited. Licensing original tracks to mix compilations such as Matthew Dear’s Fabric mix, Luciano’s HiFi SciFi on Soma and Damian Lazarus’ Get Lost mix shows that his peers in the industry hold his music in high regard. He is also the sole creative mind behind Alphahouse Records, one of North America’s premier underground electronic music labels. His latest label project, recently embarked upon with his long-time friend Sean O’Neal (Someone Else), “Little Helpers”, is already making waves and popping up in playlists all over club land. As a DJ, Butane uses vinyl, Traktor Scratch, samplers, effects and whatever other new tools are available to craft his sets. Plenty of experience as a headline performer as well as an after-hour favorite enables him to play with an incredible range, and his remarkable sensitivity to the energy of the crowd is the rare trait of a seasoned and perceptive musician. His skillfully developed sets are both classy and elegant, but surely never predictable; thanks to his huge collection of new and old tracks alike, expect anything from seamlessly blended groovy, sexy, peak-time techno to warm, deep, heady house music. Butane certainly makes a strong case for himself as one of the true talents in today’s music scene.

Sharing the stage on this glorious day of beats will be SLOW HANDS, hailing from New York City’s underground house scene, Slow Hands, aka Ryan Cavanagh, makes deep house music to dim the lights to. His tracks are sultry, laid-back affairs, with atmospheres as balmy as midsummer rooftop parties. Behind the decks, he keeps it deep and weird, bumping through subtle but epic sets that have made him a favorite at Wolf + Lamb, the dark and soulful Brooklyn label that Resident Advisor ranked #3 of 2009. With only a handful of releases to his name, Slow Hands is one of house music’s newest virtuosos. Resident Advisor hailed his productions in 2009 as “make-out disco that sorely longs to be played outside”. What a fantastic setting to exercise that statement.

Another pair of acts from the US and EU will be opening the event during the peak time sun hours. Harmonic is proud to host a super hot London group at the moment – WILDKATS. With releases on Lower East, Niem, and an upcoming EP on Hot Creations, two-thirds of this production trio will be freshly arriving from destroying a 5 show tour in Mexico. These guys absolutely killed it at Burning Man, and are guaranteed to do the same on the 25th. Opening the show will be their close Los Angeles counterpart JAKE PATRICK of Harmonic and Music Savages. Now this is a serious day of music to bask in. Please arrive early and spend the day celebrating and truly enjoying this beautiful season at the Standard rooftop.

Sheik 'n' Beik NYC Anniversary party

If you’re wondering what’s sweet in NYC this weekend (but please don’t get too sentimental, save it for Valentine’s..), you will be happy to know that the original Sheik ‘n’ Beik crew – Julio, Fong, Varick & Romainville – will be finally re-united this Saturday February 5th at Don Hill’s, Tribeca, to celebrate its 3rd anniversary. The sound by the four residents will be enhanced and shaped by James Barnes’s hypnotic video edits for a full sensory experience in true Sheik ‘n’ Beik style.

“Sheik ‘n’ Beik” started out as a weekly party in New York City, but has grown ever since, becoming a music and art installation project, with the mission to “integrate innovative and high quality music with the most cutting edge art at each event”.

Heading into their 4th year of operations, they’re now fully global, with parties in Rio de Janeiro, Beirut, Bogota & London, to name a few, and they’re considered a lifestyle by many people around the world. 2011 is looking fabulous already as they’re warming their engines up for the busiest year ever and taking off to Miami, Paris, Los Angeles & Las Vegas just in the next couple of months.

As a matter of fact, I will be playing at Sheik ‘n’ Beik Miami 2011 @ Nikki Beach, along with Martin Buttrich (Desolat/Coocon) , Behrouz (Yoshitoshi/Monique Musique), Matt Tolfrey vs. Inxec (Leftroom/Rekids), Pablo Cahn-Speyer (Cadenza/8-bit), Mikael Stavostrand (Sunset Diskos/Highgrade Records), Jeffrey Scott (Esthetik), of course Julio + Fong (Sheik ‘n’ Beik) , & several other guest performers to be announced very soon. So make sure you get your tickets: with this daytime party Sheik ‘n’ Beik, will take electronic music events to the next level of craziness..
